Updated 12/21/13: It's been a while since I updated, sorry about that. MoopKitty is still great! She's long and lean, but her face looks like an adult kitty. She plays and cuddles with her sisters, and will ask to be picked up and scritched. She still likes licking noses, and she bites (not hard) Rick's nose fairly frequently when he annoys her. She's not a fan of being thwarted (who is really?) and will make angry I'm-going-to-kill-you noises, which are adorable. She loves the dog and will chase him around. She is a talented escape artist, so we have to be vigilant when we go in and out, and we've had to repair/reinforce the screened porch more than once. It's not that she wants to be elsewhere, it's just that outside is fascinating. I'm posting more photos and videos today.

Updated 3/20/13: I'm so sorry for the lack of updates, we got very busy. But MoopKitty is fine. More than fine, really. She's growing at a stupendouse rate, she's now been spayed, and she's very lovable (on her own terms, of course). She greets everyone who comes to visit and, if we've been away for most of the day, she demands tribute. Her favorite place to be is out on the screened porch, unless it's raining. If we go in the backyard, she hangs out on the screen porch and scolds us! We've tried putting her in a harness and taking her out on the leash, but that mostly produces a lot of rolling around.

I am goring to create a new page for all the photos and a link to the videos you might have missed.

Updated 11/7/12: They grow up so fast!

I updated the photo page with a whole bunch of pictures...

And I added 4 new videos as well

She had her first set of shots and they tested her for FIV (she's fine). Vet seems to think she's very healthy, didn't even recommend we worm her. She goes back in 4 weeks for more shots, and then we'll get her fixed in January.

She's incredibly feisty and playful, and enjoys being held. She'll generally start purring right away, and then either pass out or try to eat your nose. We feed her soft food and/or cooked chicken about 4 times a day, and she just started being interested in the kibble in the last few days.

We got in some photos from her rescue, I'm still editing & stuff though. I'll probably set up a separate page for all her rescue shots. Stay tuned!

Updated 10/25/12: I have been remiss in letting you know that I have uploaded videos...

Updated 10/21/12: a long but incredibly cute video of MoopAttack

She came with me yesterday to a seminar i was taking and aquired more fans. And then she slept like the dead. Apparently being admired by 25 people all at once is tiring.

updated 10/19/12: She's pretty spunky and feisty and has started playing with toys more. She hardly sleeps in her carrier at all now, but I'm keeping it in the bed for now, as the nights are getting cooler.

I've posted three new adorable photos and an equally adorable video

Updated 10/15/12: Moop is pretty much on solid food (canned and chicken) as of today, and has figured out the litter box all on her own. Hopefully she has figured out that the litter box is the only place to potty...

She also climbs in and out of her playpen, over boxes, and can get back up on the bed. She's learning new skills so incredibly fast, it's amazing to watch! This afternoon, she chased the dog. We were, of course, supervising, no worries. But I think he has about 84 pounds on her.

I have uploaded the cutest video ever (no, really), taken this afternoon. Moop was snuggling with Pi and Bill, getting groomed a little, and being playful. So very squee-worthy.

Updated 10/14/12: Moop's transition to solid food has been easy since we discovered that she loves chicken. She still gets formula for hydration, but it's predominantly the cereal-type formula. As of yesterday, she's even eating out of a dish. This morning she had some canned food for the first time, and now she's napping after a lovely rampage arouind the house.

Updated 10/10/12: We came home from lunch today and, not only had Moop completely gotten out of her playpen, but she had made it out to the screened porch. It would appear that Bill was watching her, because she was right on her tail as Moop came proudly prancing in. We we're making sure the porch is comepletely secure for a kitten of her size.

She has also completely chewed through the nipples on all her bottles, so she's going to have to be weaned whether she wants to be or not. She is displeased, but that's what you get for eating the vehicle that feeds you.

We've had a shallow pan with litter in her playpen for a few days now. She hasn't used it yet, but at least she's getting used to its existence. I'm going to have to assume that more interaction with Bill and Pi will lead to lessons on its use. It hasn't been a huge issue yet, and we're more concerned with her getting the hand of eating out of a dish.

We posted another video from last night.

Updated 10/9/12: I have posted 5 new videos!

10/5/12 - The Indecision Dance and one just below it of one of her eating-triggered panic attacks
10/8/12 - Daddy haz a flavor and the one directly below it of Crazy Kitten Hour

Updated 10/3/12: Apologies for the radio silence, things have been busy for the humans in Moop's household...

She's more than twice the size she was when she came to us. She's playful and feisty and apparently very healthy. She has started being curious about the older kitties, and they about her (as you can see from the pictures). She has started to climb the walls of her playpen, but hasn't reached the top yet. She is, however, able to escape her "nest" (aka the carrier), even when it's completely sealed up.

Last night was the first time we've left her alone for more than an hour or two. She's no longer sedate enough to really bring to a restaurant and keep concealed, so we put her in the nest in the playpen while we were out. She got out of the nest but stayed in the playpen, thank god. The room wher the playpen is has lots of hidey-holes. On the other hand, she does come running when she hears my voice, which is adorable.

We are so very in love with this kitten. I don't even mind her waking me up to eat or play. It makes me smile. She is very sweet and affectionate.

We've gotten several suggestions of getting her a stuffed animal, for various reasons, and she actually has one (Thanks, LadyFrog!), but she hasn't shown any interest in snuggling with inanimate objects.

She is still resistant to eating from a dish, even she's chewing the heck out her bottles. Part of the problem, I'm sure, is that we haven't had a ton of time to devote to making the transition. In all honesty, bottle feeding is easier. I should have some time in the next few days to really focus on the transition.

I've posted a whole bunch of photos and a video for your enjoyment.

Updated 9/28/12: I've uploaded another video. She's getting feisty, but her balance and coordination could still use help. For the record, she came out fine at the end of the video.

Updated 9/24/12: Two new videos this morning!
Warning: excessive cuteness!

She had some sort of ear issue early this morning, where she was trying to scratch at her right ear and was shaking her head a lot. It seems to have calmed down, but we need to keep an eye on that.

Update 9/23/12: I posted another video from this morning.

Update 9/22/12: I posted 3 new photos and a video.

Update 9/20/12: A friend of ours found photos on Facebook from the day Moop and her brother were found. The photographer was kind enough to let us repost them here.

Today was the first day she was noticeably overwhelmed by attention from too many people in rapid succession. I'm doing my best to honor that and give her a safe, quiet place to decompress. She had to go to work with me today, though, because of our work schedules, and then we had to go down to a memorial service right afterward, so it was challenging. It's also difficult to make sure she stays warm in situations like that; I'm not always near an electrical outlet for her heating pad, and people turn the AC up so high when it's muggy out...

Update 9/19/12: Moop kitty has (tiny) teeth and seems to be fully weaponized.

I have rearranged the site so the photo gallery is over there and the videos have their own page, too.

I have posted a new video of Moop playing. Sorry parts of it are so dark in the beginning. It gets better. There's also a new photo.

Updated 9/18/12: Moop is "eating" about twice to three times as much per feeding, compared to a week ago. She's also considerably larger, her eyes are open all the time, and she seems to be tracking object movement.

As of last night, she can climb back into her carrier nest on her own, and is getting rather good at climbing out, although she needs a tiny assist. Most of the time, she prefers to nap on one of us (as long as she can nestle), but she does retreat to the carrier nest if she feels overwhelmed.

I noticed that she seems able to mostly retract her claws, which is great, since her strength is increasing and she has the capability of being shanktastic.

We haven't quite gotten her to drink out of a bowl yet, but we finally found a dish that is at least workable for training purposes.

Updated 9/16/12: I posted two new photos by Therm, taken last week.

She's growing fast now. We're transitioning her over to dish feeding, and I got a little pan for litter for her, although she's probably not quite ready for that yet. She keeps almost crawling out of her nest and portable box, but not quite. Still, I've been keeping her in those containers in the playpen, which is set up in my office, as it also keeps her away from the older cats.

Had a little bit of a scare yesterday. We were going to go down to San Diego for a wedding celebration, but she was doing so poorly in the heat that we turned around and came home. She cooled right off after a light bath, ate, and was resting comfortably, but I wasn't going to take her back out in the heat. She seems fine today.

Updated 9/14/12: She's starting to rampage around a little, so we have borrowed a soft sided playpen for her, so she doesn't hurt herself and we can keep her apart from the other cats a while longer.

I have uploaded one new photo and 2 new videos.

9/12/12: Wow! I just finally got around to checking Moop's inbox. Thanks for all the emails, folks!

I will continue to do my best to update here regularly. Please know that we're also both super busy right now and are prioritizing kitten care over website updates :-)

I love that all of you care so much to send email!

New video posted 9/11/12

She has definitely grown. She no longer first perfectly in my hand. Her purr is also getting louder.

She's more feisty about eating, in that it takes more convincing for her to take the bottle. We may try to transition her to a bowl.

Update 9/9/12 6:40pm: We went to 2 gatherings yesterday, but she was eating well and didn't seem terribly overwhelmed. We did leave the second one early because I thought she was getting too cold. I'm trying tno not be a helicopter mom, but I suspect I'm failing. She just feels so fragile to me. I realize, intellectually, she has to be one hell of a fighter to have survived her ordeal, but she's so tiny and shaky!

She still alternates between sleeping and eating, but seems to have a little more energy than the last few days, and she would rather sleep with one of us touching her, which is adorable.

If anyone who took photos of her at any of the events we've attended would like to send me digital copies, I'd love to put them up...

Update 9/8/12 12:51am: We went to Sci Fi Friday for a little while tonight and she was swarmed with paparazzi. She did well though, and has many more fans. Someday, she may be up for signing autographs... I think I'm more overwhelmed by all the attention than she is. Mostly I have to make sure that the person who wants to hold her has reasonably clean hands that aren't cold. She really does need to be kept warm.

New video posted 9/7/12

Update 9/7/12 5:04pm: I had her on the heating pad while I was working on a client, and she was feisty and hungry by the time we got to the vet (she also pooped on her own, which is awesome). We'll be keeping her on the heating pad from now on.

Also, she's fine as far as he can tell.

The vet says we should weigh her weekly and she should be gaining about 4oz a week. She is currently 5.5oz, for the record. We take her back in at 8 weeks for testing and shots.

Update 9/7/12 12:17pm: Moop's not doing as well today. She was having some trouble latching on to the bottle, but was still eating with encouragement, but that's getting more difficult, and she's not nearly as feisty. So we have a vet appointment today at 4pm. I have a client this afternoon, but I'll be taking Moop with me to keep an eye on her.

Moop1This is Moop. We put her birthdate sometime around August 26th. On Wednesday, someone found her and her brother in the generator compartment of their rented RV at That Thing in the Desert. They had driven up from Orange County! No idea if mom started or finished the trip with them. Luckily, there was a vet on-playa, who worked with them; they were pretty dehydrated and hungry. We even managed to get someone coming from Reno to bring formula.

Sadly, her brother didn't make it. He was honored in the Temple on Sunday night.

Monday afternoon, she came to stay with us, the vet was leaving to go home. She's part of our household now. We snuck her into our unnamed hotel in Reno, and she traveled home in the car with us the next day.

So many people asked us to keep them updated on her progress that we've created this web page.

cleavagekitty1She sleeps most of the time.

Well, that and eating. People keep asking - yes, she's bottle fed.

She's definitely got opinions on things and will let you know if yer doin' it wrong. Her balance is still challenged, but she likes to try to climb things. Possibly so she can fling herself off of them.

Her eyes opened for the first time on, I think, September 2nd.

For those of you who don't know, Moop means Matter Out Of Place. It's a term used at That Thing in the Desert to signify trash or things that need to be picked up - things that don't belong where they are.
